As some of you know I am yet another student intrigued by coworking and doing my thesis on the topic of mobile work. I am in the process of designing a few products for this venture and was wondering what most mobile workers carried with them on a daily basis when you leave the house? Please let me know what you carry with you when you have a chance. I am interested!

My iPhone is the ultimate mobile communication device, mostly because almost my entire workflow exists online. Anywhere I can get internet, I can work.
Beyond that, I carry a Macbook Air (soon a 13" Macbook Pro) for a focus on portability because I am moving around so much.
It’s worth noting that I do keep a 24" iMac on my desk at IndyHall for “heavy lifting” tasks.
I live a highly digital lifestyle, I haven’t carried a paper/pen notebook in 4 years.

That’s interesting, I feel like no matter how advanced technology becomes, you just can’t do without the conventional notebook and pen. I’ve noticed a lot of people have them when I visited coworking sites. I guess it depends on what you do and how you work.
Thanks Alex.

Half page paper notebook - we like to scribble before we go digital. There seems to be something impersonal about taking notes with a client on your laptop. I think they feel your surfing or working while there talking - that will probably change
I like the spiral bound TUFF BOOK
24 Inch iMac in studio with extra 17 inch old cinema screen with the HUGE power supply adapter (love it)

To go anywhere: iPhone, small wallet, a few plain unruled index cards, an extra fine sharpie, a rubber band, keys. Wish my iPhone was a better index card and could unlock my doors and pay for stuff
To go to work work: add MacBook pro, short bit of power cord, iPhone cable, Bart pass - all in a sling backpack with hidden pockets spewing receipts.

Speaking of Receipts, as a fairly new mobile business owner, what do you consider worthy receipts to hold on to?

These day’s I’m really trying to keep from constantly carrying everything around on my shoulder. The essentials are notepad, mobile (still on the N95!) and iPod Touch and much of the time a bottle of water!

G1 (Android) phone
15" MacBook Pro + powercord
bluetooth mouse and pad
various cables (Ethernet, USB, video)
couple of USB memory sticks
Swiss Army knife, Maglite, wire ties, cutters
occasionally: iPod
on order: HyperMac External Battery (150wh)
Aloha Diana, thought I'd be the first to support the Blackberry
Curve. Can't give up the keyboard. Then my Sony Vaio with Verizon
aircard. With a few tweaks 6hr battery life. Stereo bluetooth
headphones. Water bottle. post-its. wallet and keys and I'm out the
door. All fits into a Tumi shoulder bag and under 3lbs. I need to
work whenever and wherever I can in between shuttling 3 kids around.

I'll second the BlackBerry Curve. That and a pen and small packet of
index cards are the only things I always carry.
If I'm going to do work, I add a backpack with a MacBook, ThinkPad
T400, and a cheap pad of paper, not to mention earbud headphones.

Kick-ass thread! Love getting these glimpses into what we all take
with us when roaming about.
I'll play as well...
Everywhere:
iPhone + headphones
wallet (sometimes there's business cards in there - I tend to be
horrible about carrying them!)
pen
small pad of paper (usually just scraps stapled together)
chapstick
pile of hair ties (I've got a lot of it)
To/from work:
15" macbook + cord
moleskin planner
business cards
shades
various bills/bits of paperwork I think I'll actually get to if I
carry them around
another pile of hair ties
water bottle
coffee cup
I'll second the BlackBerry Curve. That and a pen and small packet of
index cards are the only things I always carry.
If I'm going to do work, I add a backpack with a MacBook, ThinkPad
T400, and a cheap pad of paper, not to mention earbud headphones.
