What are the best ways to get people to register their interest for a new co-working space?

Hello all,

Excited to join this group!

We have just recently launched our website for a new co-working space in Dundee, Scotland: http://hub.majr.eu

Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how we can get people to fill out the form in our area? So far no entries - have been using Twitter!

Hey Richard - so a few things stand out to me here:

1 - Your website doesn’t provide ANY information. Anything it does say is vague and assumes that people want things like “flexible work” and “shared resources.” And the only photo is of a lonely, empty desks  Nothing says “inspiring and collaborative” like an empty room, right? J/K.

2 - Even if your website were perfect, you’ve gotta get out into the real world. No shortcuts here. Start thinking of Twitter as the ultimate listening device instead of a broadcast tool. Use it to learn who’s out there, talking, and what they’re up to. Then look for ways to bring them together.

Start going to places where your potential community is already hanging out. Start getting to know people. Don’t go to pitch coworking though - especially to people who don’t know who you are or what coworking is. You’re going to to learn who’s in the community, learn how they work, learn how they interact, and learn how you might be able to facilitate bringing people together who don’t already know each other.

Again, this isn’t going on tour with your coworking concept to “register interest.” Anyone whose done this will tell you that people will quickly put their name in a box if they’re interested but when it comes time to actually sign up…crickets. Don’t make that mistake!

Bottom line is that the people you’re looking for are already out there. If you’re using the internet for anything, it should be to figure out where they are and then GO TO THERE. Then participate. Be a tummler.

Good luck and keep us posted on your first time getting out into the real world

-Alex

I encourage people to start a website where people can register interest but we need some more context and information.

I want to echo Alex’s point of adding more information and adding pictures of people and not desks. I would also recommend adding a survey in addition to the signup form so you start hear when they visit the website then just ask for sign ups. Contact them right away when you sign up and start hosting jellies.

Use the website as a place to point people so it’s easy to track and communicate with people when the time is near, but you need go get out in the world.

Don’t get discouraged about not having any sign ups. You have a place to point people but not you need to go and get engaged with them in the real world.
