Sales Tax

Hi everyone,

I was just curious how many coworking spaces out there apply sales tax?

It seems like a state by state issue, but does anyone know the general guidelines of how one would determine if its appropriate to pay sales tax for coworking in a state?

Any knowledge about the law regarding this in Texas would be especially welcome.

Thanks,
Oren

Michigan does not tax services, so we don’t collect sales tax.

You should talk to a Texas CPA about the laws there.

Hey Oren,

I would email some coworking spaces directly in Texas. There is a good chance that your state doesn’t require sales tax on services.

Hi Oren. We here in New Mexico are forced to charge sales tax (New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax) on everything, including services. But there are only a handful of such states, and I don’t think Texas is one of them.

Thanks all for the detailed replies! Will enquire directly with Texas CPA. Seems like the operative term to check for is “sales tax on services”.
