Furniture - Any recommendations on sourcing?

Hi All! I’m new to the group as of yesterday and love the amount of great info and sharing in this group. I’m in the process of building out a coworking space at the moment and am researching options for furniture. I’ve been looking into all the secondhand stores, but everything seems pretty junky and I’d like to have the space be fresh, bright and clean (no old lacquer finish chipping off on our forearms, please!).

Have any of you been able to make connections with someone who will sell desks, chairs at wholesale? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

IKEA!
We bought the cheaper pine desks and stained them a dark brown.(added a wax coating)

Look and move around nice!

I was assuming that would be my best bet. Did you actually buy desks that were unfinished or did you have to sand them down?

We are about to start a small co-working space in Las Vegas and will be purchasing Knoll Antenna product, it is quite a bit more than ikea (not as much as people think) but looks awsome and it has a life-time warranty.

I’ve used a similar looking system called Bivi from Turnstone/Steelcase.
I like your taste.

We are thinking about buying these training tables from Costco:
http://www.costco.com/Iceberg-OfficeWorks-18"-x-72"-Mahogany-Mobile-Training-Table.product.11675555.html

We need to be able to fold up the tables and move them out of the room into storage for events, so unfortunately we’re limited a bit for what we have to choose from. If anybody else has found anything better (cheaper?) that fits those unique needs then let me know!

I used to work for a contract furniture dealer - we often went to Versteel and Falcon for folding training tables, however I don’t think their price will beat those. You may check out Uline, its not contract but they have some surprising prices. Also, depending on how many training tables you plan to store, sometimes using ones without casters but storing and moving on a dolly made to move them can be a great space-saving.

We bought these training tables by Balt: http://www.amazon.com/Balt-Mentor-Seminar-Table-Black/dp/B005CHY2HS/ref=pd_sim_sbs_op_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1FAYC2GYCB3F2RKY2R84

We ordered the first batch through globalindstrial.com but when we needed an additional one we discovered the Amazon link above. As it turns out, free shipping via Amazon Prime saved us more than the cost of Prime membership on just that one item alone.

The table have worked well for the past 1+ years. We usually have them pushed together to make a sectional conference table (3 72" tables in the middle with a 60" table on each end). The only oddity is the pencil trough molded in to the top at each seating position. We get a lot of “flashback to grade school” comments, but no one really objected to it.

Sharing a little secret we learned from a previous coworking space and used in ours. If you go to the kitchen area of IKEA you can buy the full plank of kitchen counter tops. Then go to the desk area and buy the cheap legs. Not only you get very cheap tables but they can be easily stacked in case you need to store them away. This is a pic of ours https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/11200762236/

At our space we went with a bunch of Bivi tables from Steelcase/Turnstone and adjustable height task chairs from Allemuir, called Ad-Lib.

The big surprise to me is the lead times for both items. Bivi tables are average 6 weeks, and the chairs are more like 12 weeks.
