Filing for a City Business License - Type of Business to Select

Hello CoWorking Friends!

Question:

When filing for a business license, what type of business did you select ?

Thanks

This is most likely a question for your accountant and/or lawyer- in most city’s, in most cases, the exact business type isn’t really relevant until it impacts tax rates.

What options are you choosing between?

May I add that this concern goes beyond just licenses and business permits. When creating accounts for online business directories, I have a tough time finding the right category in the drop down box. Sometimes, I can find “business center” and other times, I have to find the closest category such as “Professional Services” or “Other”. I would really prefer “coworking space”, plain and simple.

I would suggest looking into a service type. In many cities service companies pay a lesser sales tax. Also no special qualifications.

check with accountant or local attorney.

In LA, biz classification directly affects annual city tax rates. In addition, professional service businesses pay more than, say, real estate/rental income.
