Credit Card Processors and Gateways

I am using Nexudus and will be collecting all membership fees via online processing. I understand I need a gateway and a credit card processor. My bank wants to do it all  Of course they do. They say they match all prices and my deposits will be available in 24 hours. Is this standard or an extra benefit?

My bank would prefer to use Authorize.net as the gateway. Can I do better? Nexudus integrates with most processors.

How do you handle your processing?

I would like to figure this out upfront instead of having to correct it later.

Thanks for your response!

We’re pretty happy with the Stripe integrate but interested in what others are doing.

I was very excited when I found Helcim. Weird name but I really like how they operate. They don’t have a pushy sales team and do have really great APIs for integration. Good rates too. https://www.helcim.com

Hi Brian,

I recommend staying away from Authorize. You could be be stuck with them, and if you decide to move to another gateway they may ask you to pay in excess of $500 to migrate your existing customers to another gateway. This was out experience in the past, 8 years ago.

But if you’re using a platform that uses Authorize, shouldn’t those customer info be within the platform? Or are you talking about having to re input cards on file?

Yes you have to re-input their CC info into the new system. if you ask Authorize to send those existing subscribers to another gateway you’d have to pay. However, Stripe gives this flexibility should you decide to leave them and help you with the process.

I would be careful with handling user CCs as it may trigger PCI non compliance.

Hi Brian,

Regarding the comment from Hasan. Nexudus uses an intermediate credit card vault service so the card details are never stored in the gateway directly. This makes migrating to any of the supported gateways very easy and means you won’t be stuck with Authorize.net or have to ask for credit card details again to members if you decide to change gateway or find a better rate down the line.

Definitely Adrian! Nexudus

is a great option to use to manage your space based on the technology they use.
We have developed similar technology with regards to managing Post Mail for Physical and Virtual members with open API integration.

See you guys in Amsterdam at the Coworking Europe in November!

I took the easy way out and went with Stripe. I was set up in 15 minutes. Pricing is fair with no setup or monthly fees, just 2.9% of the transaction and $.30 per transaction. There are no contracts to worry about. When we expand to more locations it may be beneficial to go with a processor that charges based on what card is being used (Certain cards have lower rates). You will then have monthly fees also, so you need to be doing volume to beat Stripe.

Now I have a question for the Stripe users…

Do you accept ACH (bank account) payments?

The rate is only .8% per transaction (that’s cheap).

But, it looks like the integration is difficult. Plaid is used in conjunction with Stripe. The documentation Stripe sent me states vendors must verify member accounts.

Is all of this done within the Stripe integration, or is there more to it?

Thanks in advance!

ACH can take 5-7 business days, according to a few processors I’ve asked, but for the record, I didn’t really hunt for the best one. We’ve been testing out FreshBooks for ACH and despite their claim that it would take 5 biz days, we often get deposits within 1-2 biz days.

Has anyone tried QuickBooks’ ACH feature? They also say 5-7 business days or something, but that for us is not compelling.

I offer ACH via QuickBooks for some of the direct invoicing I do (most payments are automatic through Stripe). It’s slow as hell. I hate that, but for larger payments it beats the fees, and it’s easier than getting printed checks.

I tried Stripe ACH once, but I can’t seem to get the money and don’t have the time to figure it out!

scott.

Brian, I know you wrote this over a year ago, but I have a questions about Stripe. I thought I was all set up and then my first member tried to pay and got an “invalid API key provided message.” When I wrote Nexudus to ask what that meant, they replied I should remove the Stripe gateway and enter the correct API key. I have no flippin’ idea what that means. I’ve written to them but now it’s the weekend for them and I may not hear back until Monday. Can you enlighten? You seem to know what you’re talking about. Thanks for any help. Weezie
