Where in the US are you? I know that there are some smaller, regional events going on that I might be able to point you to.
Also, we had SUCH a great time producing the People At Work Summit last year and by popular demand, we’re doing it again…with some tweaks. Our focus for that conference is really on the human aspect of coworking, collaboration…and it’s totally online so no travel necessary
We haven’t set a date yet but it’s definitely happening!

I’m in the US. and although I would love to travel overseas, not sure if the budget will resist that
I checked the GCUC page and it seems like there is one in the US East Coast in May but no location yet on the website.
Hi Alex,
I’m on the East Coast, in Washington DC, but I’m willing to travel a little if it si worth
Thanks

The #1 mistake in community building is doing it by yourself.
You should check out QTLY “A local event series by and for owners and operators of shared workspaces… and then some.” I believe they will be announcing a number of cities shortly! http://convene.community/
A great way to connect with your local community and get insight from owners and operators!

Was totally going to recommend People at Work Summit, but Alex beat me to it. You should also check out Mike LaRosa’s regional events, via communitas.network. They have a few in the US next year, though they may be only for current space operators. Are you currently running a coworking community?

I’m from Italy and I can suggest you a very interesting coworking retreat that is organized in the north of Italy, on the Garda Lake. (1.30h to MIlan)
The location is amazing and the program is very interesting. You can have a look on facebook were they published the entire event and you can find the email where to ask info; GESTI is the organizator.

We are in the business plan stage.
I will check it out and see if we can attend.
Thanks

Thank you Matteo,
I checked it out and I have to say that even though spending 7 days in a retreat in Italy sounds absolutely fabulous, I’m not sure our budget allows it!
But it does sound great!

I will be signing for the next People At Work Summit for sure! Keep us posted.
And about the smaller regional events. I’m all ears. I’m in DC, but I have no problem with travelling in the US.

Hi Cecilia,
In addition to the other great suggestions on the thread such as QTLY by Mike LaRosa (Communitas), and GCUC on the East Coast, I would also recommend looking at the GWA (Global Workspace Association) Conference. It’s in Miami this year from Sept 11-13th.
Happy to answer any other questions you may have.
Best,

For those of you interested in coworking events, we’ve added a few more cities to the calendar. For the most up to date list, please visit www.qtly.io. Many folks have been asking us about it. We are not a group of competitors; we are a group of collaborators. That said, there is a need and a desire for spaces to connect on a local level either because they want to know more about their local industry or they can’t always afford to go to some of the amazing global conferences. We wanted to bring the magic so many of us are fortunate to experience at events like GWA, Coworking Europe or CUAsia to everyone; so have made them local and low cost.
We also witnessed a trend where different groups were defining spaces and putting them in categories rather than being inclusive. No matter what you are: coworking, cafe, accelerator, library, gov’t run space. If you share space for people to work or collaborate in, you’re welcome to participate. No labels here. We often discover that by surrounding yourself with different types of spaces helps make you a better manager and makes you better informed to help out potential members who might not be the best fit for your space.
Let’s follow the amazing example of folks in Denver, LA, Boston, DC and Chicago by proving that referring others to each other is the rising tide which will lift all our boats.
Additionally I totally second the suggestion for participating in the People at Work Summit - such an awesome amount of learning and content from last year!
Lastly - there is now this AMAZING coworking retreat that we’re hosting in Barcelona this May. Coworking Insights and Coworkation approached us to partner with them on this and we can’t wait to spend a whole week making some real coworking magic!
