Best reads on community

Hey guys

Can someone suggest some good books/blogs/reads on building and engaging members of a community? Something that is tried and tested good.

Thanks in advance!

11 community building resources for coworking spaces http://coworkinghandbook.com/community-building/

Ramon

A while ago I published an academic article on bottom-up community building (entitled Coworking: A community of work) and a study case of Creative Centre Poligon, which has grown to the biggest coworking space and creative centre in south-eastern Europe. I think it鈥檚 listed on Ramon鈥檚 website, but you can also access it directly via Academia.edu.

I desperately need to update my recommended reading list, but it includes books, articles, scholarly work, and more: http://dangerouslyawesome.com/recommended-reading-for-community-leaders/

It鈥檚 all evergreen stuff, and I鈥檒l add the recommendations from this thread to it shortly.

There鈥檚 another 鈥渂ook鈥 that I haven鈥檛 really talked about here on the list yet鈥

Over the summer Adam and I produced and launched a reverse audiobook called 鈥淭he First Ten.鈥 which dives deep into the process we used to build Indy Hall鈥檚 community from scratch back, and how we deploy that process today, ten years later.

Reverse audiobook? Yep. Instead of writing a book then later narrating it, we went the other way around: we recorded 20 hours of stories and lessons in audio format, edited that down to ~10 hours, had it transcribed, and now we鈥檙e editing it until a final written resource.

Latest review in my inbox:

*"*Right after listening to your audiobook, I posted to our Facebook group inviting my community into the process. It鈥檚 the first time I鈥檝e really put this next step out to the world (to say your story was an inspiration would be an understatement). What鈥檚 interesting too is that the feedback around this has been quite positive, with various people showing interested in getting involved in various ways."

While it feels good to have this resource out in the world, it鈥檚 emails like that one where can take direct action鈥hat鈥檚 what totally makes my day!

We put free audio samples of all 11 chapters on the website, so you can check them out before buying a copy of the audiobook for yourself
