Oh yes! I’ve thought about how to do this. We don’t have exactly what you are talking about but we’ve done different things to support artists and makers.
We’ve had artists as members who have held their classes here, we’ve offered space for member made products to be on display and for sale around the holidays, we’ve hosted craft fairs.
We exhibit local artisans’ work in our gallery. We just took down a show of ceramics and local furniture. However, in Baltimore we have OpenWorks which I think is much more what you have in mind. Check out their website at www.openworksbmore.com.
That place is awesome. Thanks for the link. We’re on a 2nd floor and the ground floor, with a basement and mezzanine is coming online. Creative juice is flowing.
We are onboard with this idea! Our space opens in March but the plan is to use a large space in the back that has a couple of sinks and cabinets for Artists/Makers. Love the idea about them holding classes. Theres a thing called Skill Pop here which has classes on many different subjects- often artists or crafts. Great thought! We also have a large display case in our Front Room where we will rent out shelf space for artists to display their products and sell, as well as using our walls for Gallery exhibits. Anxious to hear more thoughts from you all!

Anyone out there offering space to artisans and craftspeople who are making things?
Our space is exactly for them: makers, designers, engineers, architects, artists or any entrepreneur with a project that needs physical space appart from traditional office space like any coworking. We are in Buenos Aires, Argentina and our space is called Laborando - www.laborando.com.ar. We offer coworking space during working hours and courses during the evening. Our memberships are monthly for now but would love to offer daily or weekly passes.
