Coworking Logo

Tara,

They actually work very well in grayscale? I will upload a grayscale
version tonight. That is if the wiki lets me, worst case I will send you a
grayscale EPS via email.

Those are beautiful, John. How do they work in greyscale? We need to
make sure that we can print a one-color logo on stuff (some schwag
won't allow for more than one).

Why not do two stick-figure people to either side of a desk, leaning
back in their chairs with their feet propped up and arms behind their
heads? It's informal, it's fun, it conveys the idea of a shared space,
etc. You could even put a starfish logo on one of the desk drawers if
you wanted.

Right, Jay - better if the "co-" in co-working shows up in the art.
Even a cluster of seastars interacting, if you want to stay with that
theme. - Phil Wolff

re: stick figures. BarCamp, too, is about people coming together without the need of stick figures in the logo.

That being said, go ahead and mock something up and put it on the wiki.

Personally, I’m voting for John’s latest…I really like them!

I love John Bilotta's latest submissions! Especially #2 (black
starfish, yellow background). Plus, the broad starfish will allow
derivative works to add small logos and/or country colors within.

Very nice!

Those are beautiful, John. How do they work in greyscale? We need to
make sure that we can print a one-color logo on stuff (some schwag
won't allow for more than one).

Also, you might check out the explanation of the CoWorking Institute's logo:

Tried to add these to the wiki, but something about pbwiki and my
firefox config keeps crashing. I will place them up once I get some
sleep, but figured I would post this here in the meantime:

http://flickr.com/photos/lwallenstein/tags/coworking/

I am not an illustrator or graphic artist so these could probably be
done better by a 2 year old with crayons, but I figure I would put it
out there for sketch purposes.

I know the logo would appear in print black and white, but since it
will also be online I think a bit of color in appropriate places would
be good. I chose green because it symbolizes growth, harmony,
freshness, and fertility.

I chose "working alone sucks" because it is honest and to the point.

Hey Chris,

I am mocking up a few more now. I also want to send you a typestudy, see if
any thing there tickles your fancy. The typefaces I used were chosen due to
their neutral nature.

It seems that Betahouse in Boston is not a good match for us. Are there any
other groups in the area? Are there any people interested in organizing
something like the NY CooBric at one of the venues?

We had a similar situation right after we opened where a small business was interested in utilizing a portion of our space, and while they were a great group the fit just didn’t seem right, chiefly from that growth perspective you described. That’s a tough thing to monitor as a space owner.

Perhaps you could elaborate on what would be your ideal coworking
space -- what amenities, features, community size, culture and the
like -- would be like.

I think this is a great opportunity to look at what different folks
want and how different people think about how coworking could work for
them.

I'm sure you're not alone in your preferences, so it'd be great to get
a sense for what *your* ideal coworking space might offer (recognizing
and acknowledging that at the same time, Betahouse is someone else's
ideal vision of coworking).

Also, you might check out the explanation of the CoWorking Institute's
logo:

I think that the starfish is a good symbol and I really like John's
efforts so far. I'm not sold on the typefaces but I think his shape is
a good direction...

Johnny, these are beautiful. I love the starfish!

To echo Tara's concern about one-color/greyscale, I'd love to see your
basic starfish shape transposed to the "barcamp-style" layout, too.

It would be awesome to have a logotype that could take several forms
for different purposes.

Hey Chris,

I am mocking up a few more now. I also want to send you a typestudy, see if
any thing there tickles your fancy. The typefaces I used were chosen due to
their neutral nature.
